Wild interview experience tonight, ended up withdrawing on the spot

Had one of the strangest interview experiences tonight. I applied for a job on LinkedIn two days ago and almost immediately got a call from a recruiter who screened me and said he’d refer me to the company.

About six hours later, the recruiter emails saying the hiring manager wants to set up a Zoom interview, but they want to do it at 6:30pm the next day. Fine. I join at 6:30 and wait. By 6:40, still nothing. I message the recruiter, who tells me he’ll call the interviewer and that he’s probably just running behind on a business call.

The interviewer finally joins at 6:45. He spends about ten minutes giving an overview of the company and the role, then asks me to walk through my resume, which I do and we have good back and forth for a few minutes. We talk until 6:59. Then someone starts talking to him and he abruptly says, “I have to jump off at 7. Are you available at 7:30 to come back on? I can’t just be 15 minutes late to every interview.”

I literally said, “Excuse me?” He repeats it. I said yes, ended the call, and immediately realized how ridiculous the whole thing was. I messaged the recruiter to withdraw my application. He didn’t respond, so I emailed the interviewer directly to thank him for his time and let him know I wouldn’t be rejoining.

Life is too short to deal with managers like that.
