I’m struggling to understand what’s going on with hiring. I’ve applied to many roles that closely align with my background and keep getting rejected, either almost instantly or weeks later with no communication in between.
My resume has been reviewed by multiple HR and recruiting professionals, is current, and scores over 90 on ATS scans. I have leadership experience at large global organizations. I fully expect rejection as part of the process, but the pattern and inconsistency are becoming discouraging.
In some cases, I receive an automated rejection within hours. In others, it takes weeks just to receive a rejection. As an example, I applied to a role nearly identical to my current position and received a rejection around 3 a.m. the following day, which suggests automated screening rather than human review.
What’s more confusing is that I’ve been referred internally for several roles. While I don’t expect a recruiter call for every referral, the majority of the time I don’t receive any outreach at all.
At this point, I’m questioning whether this is about me or whether the hiring process itself is broken right now. Is this a common experience in today’s market? I’d appreciate honest perspectives from job seekers and anyone involved in hiring.
