I got a job at AbbVie last week Friday on the same day I completed my interview with them.
They were impressed by my work especially the use of Power BI which I had never used prior but the funny story is, before these guys another company wanted me.
I’ll call them company X, but essentially I was given a data task to create a story from the messy data they gave me and then to provide a visualisation with insights identified, data quality issues I found and what data I included/excluded.
Once I finished the assignment, I then emailed them back to let them know but I didn’t hear anything from them for about 1-2 weeks…. YES!😅, now another company AbbVie were really interested in me and I genuinely forgot how I applied or where because I was applying to many places.
So we agreed on the day to do the interview which was last week Friday, then out of nowhere company X then comes back apologising for not getting back to me and looks to schedule an interview with me on the same week of AbbVie lol, so I said Wednesday is cool with me since I was already booked for Friday.
The HR woman for X company then said in another email she and another team member from the department I was interested in (AI and data) were looking forward to my presentation and so it was confirmed.
Fast forward to Wednesday, the interview went well, they loved my presentation and data dashboard etc, cool so I was then told I’d hear back on Friday or Monday on the next step which was okay with me.
Friday rolls around and now I have my interview with AbbVie, again the interview went very well and the project I used for company X I showed that to them and they were really impressed by it along with other things I have built and worked on along with personal experience of things that didn’t work out and what I learned from it.
They told me I’d hear back like next week or so as there were other people they were interviewing at the time which I was okay with.
Company X didn’t get back to me on Friday though so I figured Monday, so after my interview with AbbVie about let’s say 2-3hrs later as I was just doing research on my computer I decided to check my phone and noticed I got a missed call from someone and I listened to the voicemail to see what they wanted and it was AbbVie, I thought they wanted me to provide a survey score on how the interview went, I found it weird😂 but I was like okay I’ll call back as they wanted me to call them back in the voicemail.
Long story short at this point the woman was really chirpy on the line and told me congratulations I got the role/job and I was happy to finally hear such words. So they explained the usual to me and then sent me the contract to read and sign.
So I didn’t sign immediately, I wanted to read it well and also I was waiting to hear back from company X because they said Monday.
Monday comes, no word, I decide to wait again…. Tuesday comes, no word, I decide to wait once more, Wednesday comes…
Coming back from gym, I got a phone call from AbbVie, I didn’t pick it up as I was walking on a busy road and it wouldn’t be ideal so I said ye when I get home I’ll call once I’ve eaten. Just about to finish making my oats…. Boom another call and I answered and it was AbbVie telling me if everything was okay because I hadn’t signed yet and I explained ye everything is good I’m just reading the contract etc and that I’ll sign today (which I did) but also they needed to register me so I can get my money on time and other stuff within the business.
So i officially signed and I forgot about company X (I didn’t care much anymore because of how incredibly slow they were), I did then send a follow up explaining how I am still interested but another company has followed up with me blah blah blah but it was respectful how I put it.
Alright so I didn’t hear anything back from them upon that follow up😂, and gmail was even telling me do I want to follow up from the message too💀, so I just left it.
Now as I was about to complete my first week, on Thursday I then get an email from Company X, to keep it short they said they enjoyed my presentation and I spoke well in my explanations etc…. So then they wanted to now invite me to a final round interview💀 (I thought the other I did was the last one lol), and it would be a 30min call with the senior manager to assess my ability a bit more and also I can ask questions to the manager.
So they then asked what my availability is like so they can send me an invite and mark it in their calendar, I replied and said Friday is cool. Now tell me why I didn’t receive any invitation😂.
I’m very happy with AbbVie and their responsiveness along with the environment as for company X, they are unbelievably slow.
I ain’t jobless no more! And to those still searching you will find something trust me, just continue to apply and live life that’s what I did.
