Is it common nowadays for companies to offer unpaid internships?
I graduated in December 2025 with a Bachelor’s in Computer Science. While in school, I completed two paid internships, did research ( got a stipend) and worked as a freelancer. I’ve had several interviews since graduating, but no offers yet. Recently, I interviewed with the CEO of a startup for an internship position. The job posting didn’t list a salary, and I found out at the end of the interview that the role was unpaid.
Anyways … the CEO said interns are expected to work 45 hours per week. There are morning and night shifts, and if you miss a shift, you’re expected to make up the hours later. There are also two required meetings each week, the only benefit is that it’s remote.
