Theyre asking for 5 references. I only have 1.

I have an interview this week with the hiring manager. The recruiter I’ve been working with asked me to come to the interview with 5 references. I’m currently employed, and have been working at my job for the last 7 years. My one reference is my former boss who retired a couple years ago.

If I was no longer working at my current company, I would include my coworkers and contractors I’ve used. But at this time, I don’t want them to know I’m applying elsewhere. Also, I haven’t kept in touch with the former employers from 7+ years ago.

What do I do? should tell them I only have 1 reference at this time? Or tell them I can have it once an offer is made? I feel like 5 is a lot.
