I’m a Purchasing professional working for a large pharmaceutical company. For a long time, I believed everything was going well until my immediate supervisor shared some news from our senior manager. Apparently, there are plans to put me on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) due to communication issues and backorders — most of which were inherited from the previous buyer and ongoing manufacturing problems, not entirely within my control.
My workload is heavy (honestly, it feels like a 3-person job), so hearing this was unexpected. At first, I thought the shift in how my senior manager treated me during huddles was related to job level or salary discussions, but later I found out that a coworker had been feeding negative feedback about me to management. It was proven because our manager confronted my coworker and my immediate supervisor about that.
Recently, I received a job offer from an emerging company for a Procurement Specialist role supporting a US-based client (also an emerging company). The compensation is slightly lower than my current pay, so I’m still negotiating. They already know about my situation and that I’ve received the offer.
Meanwhile, my current company hasn’t shown any effort to retain me. Instead, they seem to be moving quickly to open a replacement role.
I’m honestly torn. Staying feels risky because of the PIP, but leaving also feels risky because the new company is still growing — and I have a 9-month-old child to think about.
Would you stay for stability or take the new opportunity for a fresh start?
