It’s done. I did it. I finally did it. I got the written job offer for my dream job.
I’m not in a tough situation like some, I currently have a middle manager job at a big corporation in accounts payable. It’s a nice office job with good competition and benefits. What could I complain about?
I’m done with the corp rat race. The office politics, the thankless job that’s always push push push and never good enough. If you aren’t in “the boys club” you are going nowhere.
Well, I finally did it after 9 months of job hunting, interviewing, hiding interviews from my job, getting rejected after 5-6 interviews and calling out sick to attend full day multi panel interviews. It’s a full time job on top of my regular job. Plus I have 2 kids under 2 years old.
I got the job offer today. 25% pay increase, hybrid work schedule, all gov holidays off, plus a week in summer and a week from Christmas to new years off. No crazy huge corp bs. The commute is 20 mins from home. And I’m actually really excited and interested in the industry.
All this to say, is that I know it’s grim out there. Tons of people are in a worse situation than mine. I get that I don’t have it that bad. The mental and emotional pain had been horrible from a boss and a job that nothing is ever good enough and no trust in your efforts and knowledge as a professional. Especially when you are the sole provider for a family with 2 new babies in a world of increasing inflation and costs.
But keep your head up. Keep moving forward and trucking on. It is possible. It can happen. Opportunity is out there. It might not be right now, it might not be in 3 months, but the best thing you can do is be prepared. Be ready and prepared to answer and open the door when the knock comes. Update your resume, network with friends and contacts. Constantly search indeed, linked in, monster, and more. Apply to jobs and that you aren’t immediately qualified for. It’s exhausting, but you have to cast the net and get the interview juices flowing. You can do it.
Once you finally get the offer, pure glory. Elation. Emotional waves have been crazy today. It’s finally here and the perfect quiting fantasy I have been harboring for the past year is possible. Ha! I’ll stay professional, but still. I have the power now and no more am I in fear.
Anyways, rant over. I bought some champagne to celebrate and I’m going to finish it now
