Left old job because of salary, going back to it

Just thought I would post this because the corporate rules of the world are so weird.

I left my old job because of compensation. The people were fantastic and the work was.. Well. Busy. Work is work. But I was content and busy. But I left my old job because I had asked for a raise, and I didn't get it. So, new job came in with a 20% more of my salary offer. Naturally, I left.

Now, a year later, I hate my job. Same field. But I hate it. I wear too many hats. I'm doing low level work. I feel myself regressing professionally because I am not put tasks that are stimulating nor what I was hired to do. I asked HR to consider hiring help. It's a growing place and yet, I'm the only one to do so many administrative, not what I'm meant to be doing kind of things at a time. So, I reapplied to my old job.

I said to myself "Well, if they don't pay enough... then who cares! I'll be happy."

And now I'm absolutely in shock that they are willing to pay what I'm being paid now. I have no words. It makes me question why they let me leave so easily.
