I was invited to an interview for a cleaning company. They didn't ask me a single question and just told me I could go. I found that a little odd but then they called me saying I got the job and I had to come in for onboarding and to sign some papers. When I went in, they explained that I had to pay $120 for my background check and that they will be deducting it from my paycheck. I was just wondering if they're allowed to do that or if it's a scam.
Edit: Actually, after checking further, at least in my state, it is illegal. An employer cannot make this deduction from my paycheck
