I've applied to hundreds of jobs over the past two years and it feels like none of my prior experience is relevant to anything on the market. I've gotten one interview. Made it to the final round, didn't get it — wasn't right for me anyway.
My prior experience doesn't seem to count for anything — years as a writer and interaction designer for kids' products, electronic toys mostly. Product design jobs want a portfolio, but I'm not a visual designer, so I have nothing to show. I designed interactions via flowcharts and Word docs that were under NDA.
I feel like it's time to give up on applying to relevant-seeming jobs and start fresh. Maybe go back to school. I wish I could just get in the door somewhere entry-level, but this market doesn't seem to have any entry-level roles.
Any advice?
