I worked at one of the biggest collectable authentication companies in the world and decided to quit today. Only 4 months. These are my reasons.
1) I applied directly with the company, but the company syphoned me through a temp agency.
2) The pay was $17 an hour in one of the most expensive states in the USA
3) My commute was 1 hour to get to work and 1 hour 30 minutes to return home (the distance was my fault but I wanted to work for that company)
4) They called me into the office to tell me I was making mistakes entering orders 2 months in. I always asked if I was doing things right and they said yes, so this was a surprise. I was supposed to be trained by the shift leader again, but instead I just completed orders and they would double check them before I entered them. She said everything was fine & I corrected the mistakes. Then they called me into the office this week to tell me I kept making the same mistakes, but they did not show me the mistakes I made.
5) This final time they called me into the office it was the day before Christmas eve (Tuesday). We worked Christmas eve (Wednesday) then had the following 2 days off for Christmas. We are closed weekends. That is when the manager tells me “They want to keep me but they want me in a different department”. They tell me my schedule (6 am - 2:30 pm) will change to 7:30 am - 4 pm starting Monday.
I ask the manager are there any other positions with the same schedule I have now because the commute will add an extra hour both ways solely due to traffic . She says “We need to train you during these hours, so after 2 weeks we will revisit this conversation about the schedule”.
That is when I decided to quit, and without a 2 weeks notice. I feel disrespected because she gave me 1 day notice of a major change in my schedule. They don’t deserve a two week notice from me at all.
Oh, and we gave Christmas presents to each other 2 hours before this. So i hope the whole company crashes and fails.
P.S.: This job has mandatory overtime as well. Some shifts start at 4am (2 hour of overtime). And mandatory overtime on weekends sometimes. So, overall, it wasn’t worth it.
