I tried posting this in R/Costco and they immediately removed it lol. They couldn’t handle the truth. I worked at Costco for 4 years and I hate working here so much. Managers don’t care that members are verbally abusing employees. Managers treat us like machines and not like human beings, and refuse to hire more people when we are always running on a skeleton crew and doing the job of 3 people. They’re pushing up more and more and giving us less help. Costco only cares about gaining as much money as possible, about pushing membership upgrades and selling Mastercards and does not care for their employees. That saying that Costco cares about their employees is absolutely bullshit. I seen a reddit post about a guy saying they care more about a missing rock than their own employees which I think is absolutely correct.
Members think because they pay a membership that they can treat employees horribly and can get away with it. Since I started working in Costco my respect for humanity has completely disappeared as I seen the absolute worst people can be, as I been reduced to tears by several members for just doing my job. I had nights where I would constantly have nightmares about work. Retail is not for the weak and I’m currently in school so I can stay far FARR away with dealing with the general public meanwhile I’m stuck in this job cause the job market is absolutely cooked right now, and I have bills to pay. Only thing keeping me going is the lifelong friends I made in Costco, trauma really brings people together.
