I work for a shitty company as a shift manager where Im technically managing the entire shop by myself 95% of the time because the general manager steals time and never shows up.
Recently, we had our portable air conditioner removed (which is stupid because it’s 71 degrees outside, and we have no other air conditioner in working but I need to cook and use the oven CONSTANTLY) As a result, I almost passed out not once but TWICE while at work, as I am the only person working. (Register, packing deliveries and pickups, cooking, cleaning etc.) I also fell on the floor because I was dizzy once. I started out very optimistic about this job but right now I don’t think it’s worth the pay rate to be acting as a manager (since the REAL manager can’t show up) and working alone 99% of the time (I get paid minimum wage in NYC). Furthermore, I feel like I’m not being appreciated. I have the experience and the drive to move up in the company but I’m being blocked because I’m guessing it’s because if they did, they would have to find someone else to fill my position. I used to go above and beyond for this job but I don’t want to anymore. It’s not worth the stress.
How can I quite quit without being fired for misconduct? I don’t want to quit because I don’t have another job lined up yet and quitting also forfeits unemployment eligibility in New York. Should I just start slacking off until they fire me?
