After being unemployed for 5 years, I'm happy to report I have been offered 3 jobs! I need your help in deciding which one to choose! All are with public agencies working in the same industry.
#1 - Wichita, KS. $75,000
#2 - Raleigh, NC. $100,000
#3 - Los Angeles. $120,000
The biggest kicker is the first two jobs are permanent job while LA is a contract position only, renewable every 6 months. All three do offer pension but the job in LA only offers primary medical insurance/sick pto - no other benefits and no salary increases whatsoever (the salary I listed is the set contract rate if were to work there annually).
I've been nomading in Asia the last few years and I haven't held a paid, office job in 5 years, so I'm happy to have these choices. The transition back to work might also be tough so the 6-months renewable contract in LA is somewhat enticing. However, if I'm coming back to the US then I want to earn a legit salary in a guaranteed seat. Which makes me think Raleigh might be the better long term financial play?
I lived in LA over a decade ago but never enjoyed it because I hated driving; I have never been to KS or NC. Eventually, I want to return and retire in Asia, but let's just say there's quite a few decades before that happens. Which job location would you choose? What are your thoughts on which option is the most appropriate path?
Edit: The LA role is the most interesting one to me.
