So I’m feeling a little horrible at the moment. After months of searching for a job (nearly a year) I finally got an interview, and a job ! I was over the moon, planning on debt repayment, ways to help my mom and family, and more. I started my first day of training completely on a computer (but in office) and it was definitely a long, daunting training session with tons of reading. I was hired 2 days before I started, so my manager told me it was okay if I hadn’t finished reading the full online handbook on my on-boarding day. I finished most of it, but not all. I told my training manager, who was immediately annoyed and asked me to finish it. This set the tone for things, and at some point I was tired of reading and decided to watch some of the video module as I was meant to do this training the full 8 hour shift. Today, I came into work, and was immediately confronted by the training manager, saying 4 other team leads saw me being “not on task” ie they saw apparently scrolling too fast which meant I was skimming to them - and that I didn’t follow instructions by looking at future modules ahead of time (the videos) I explained and assumed that my apology would suffice. She proceeded to give me a pop quiz on detailed, random questions from the training in which I got some wrong, and then she would give me a blank stare. After grilling me, She had my termination letter already in hand printed, saying the other manager already contacted HR, and that I’m fired. This all happened within 24hrs, my first shift ended at 8pm & my morning shift - where I got fired, was at 10am. I’m kinda shocked at how rigid & cut throat this was, and honestly the way they spoke to me in general was insane. They made me feel genuinely stupid and incompetent for what I feel could’ve been a simple mistake but they have me doubting if this was truly my fault. I know I’m at fault somewhat, but I’m just looking for opinions.
