Two people quit during my onboarding and I was expected to manage that transition while onboarding.
They were just dumping work on me and anytime I asked the slightest question their energy went cold.
I took initiative on transition planning, organized documentation, got positive feedback from staff. Then in a single meeting, leadership downplayed everything I'd done, piled on more work with no support, then got defensive/deflective the moment I raised any concern about unrealistic expectations.
Afterward, my manager pulled me aside, apologized, said he wanted a "clean slate." I believed him.
Next morning: a calendar invite with no visible attendees. I show up, HR is already on the call. 30 seconds later "we're ending your employment effective immediately," no reason given, call over.
Later found out this exact role has burned through 5 people in 6 years and staff have complained to leadership, including HR, with nothing changing.
I knew something was off from the start and stayed anyway because I needed the paycheck.
