FINAL UPDATE: A wild ride in this job market.

First off, I want to thank everyone on this sub who gave me advice over the last few months. You all helped me navigate a chaotic career transition, and since things have finally settled down, I figured I owed you the final update.

To give you the quick backstory if you haven’t seen my other posts, I moved to Texas for personal reasons and left a well-paying gig to do so. Once here, I landed a legal role making 55k with a brutal one-hour daily commute. I was still interviewing though, and a fully remote firm I had corporate heart-eyes for offered me 65k with a better title. I knew my skill set warranted the growth, so I took the leap.

Day one, they flew me out to another state for onboarding. I spent a week learning the ropes, meeting the team, and feeling like a absolute rockstar. Then I flew home.

Four days later, during my routine one-week check-in, they terminated me.

The reason? They suddenly decided they wanted someone local. Mind you, the role was explicitly advertised and hired as remote. To make it weirder, I found out my boss terminated several other people on the team right around the same time. The math wasn't mathing and I was left holding a very unexpected pink slip after exactly seven days on the payroll.

Even though it was a massive shock, I didn't regret taking the advice here to know my worth and take risks.

Fast forward to the actual happy ending. I am now almost two weeks into an even better position. It was a miracle it was aligned with my background at the time it did. Puzzle piece fit. It pays 63k, but the title is the highest I have ever had, and the autonomy is unmatched. I waited a bit to post this because I wanted to make sure the chair didn't disappear from under me again, but it is safe to say I am in a much better place.

Life throws lemons, sometimes at high velocity, but if you believe in your value you will land on your feet. I learned a lot, I am much more career-savvy now, and I regret absolutely nothing.

Thanks again, everyone.
