I lost my job last Feb (a year ago today!!) - April I took on a 6 month contract that ended in September. today in an interview I got asked ”why such a long break?“
I was caught off guard. in this economy youre going to ask that?!? like sir, read the room. But anyway…
i said “I needed to rest and take a break. ive worked for 20 years without a meaningful break. so i took the time to play pickleball every day, and enjoy it. I had foot surgery in december and didnt want to get a job before that just to take time off to recover. started my search after surgery, recovered 50% faster than expected and here we are! excited to get back to work.”
that was the honest answer and it just came out bc im not a strong liar.
if someone told me this as a hiring manager id be like - you go girl.
