I got laid off over a year ago because the company was rolling out layoffs to all the remote workers.
Since then I can't find anything. I have medical issues so I can't work jobs where I have to stand, and the few jobs that I could do, like reception, get snagged up by other people and I don't even get interviews.
Doesn't help that I have a useless degree and while I have many skills, I don't have a specialty and my work background is a bit eccentric. (Early childhood education, assisting a newspaper with local events, working with a bank on things like account setups, quality control and such.)
Remote work would suit my medical needs best but it's full of scams and high competition for entry level, which is all I'm qualified for.
I live with my mother still, at nearly 41 because I was laid off before I was able to move out. Now I'm stuck here. But she's not in good health, and I lay up at night terrified that any day now I'll be homeless.
With AI taking over and wages staying low while COL goes up I live every day in fear. And I have some really dark thoughts. I honestly don't know what to do. Car insurance and paying out of pocket for medical expenses now that I'm uninsured are eating my savings quickly. I rarely find jobs to even apply to anymore because nothing new is getting posted. People say 'take online courses' but they cost money and AI is taking up so many of these sorts of jobs anyway so it's too high risk, especially when I need my money for medical needs and car insurance.
I'm honestly terrified. I've tried everything and nothing is working. I can't even get 1 single interview. Just rejections and ghostings. I can't live like this much longer. I can't remember the last time I smiled or felt happy about anything. I'm just constantly anxious and feeling like a failure, especially when I can't even work at some stupid place like McDonalds. I can't do this much longer.
Please be kind in the comments.
