I submitted an application for an operations specialist role yesterday morning. Exactly seven minutes later an automated email landed in my inbox requiring me to complete a "pre-screening assessment" within forty-eight hours. They wanted me to record five separate video responses to AI-generated prompts while staring into my own webcam.
i immediately withdrew my application. An interview is a two-way street where I am evaluating the company's culture just as much as they are evaluating my qualifications. Forcing an applicant to perform like a trained animal for an algorithm before a single human being has even looked at their resume is deeply dehumanizing.
I replied to the email stating I’d be thrilled to discuss the position in a live conversation, but don't participate in asynchronous video recordings. The recruiter actually emailed back sounding shocked, claiming their team was "too busy" to interview every candidate and that this was the only way to be evaluted.
If your company doesn't have thirty minutes to speak to candidates, you aren't ready to hire. We need to normalize shutting this garbage down immediately.
