my boss pulled me in for a follow up chat and out of nowhere goes "im not sure where youve got the idea that you were getting a pay rise from?" and basically told me she never agreed to one. i was floored because weve been operating for months like it was a done deal.
i told her she said it herself in my review back in the spring, that once i took on the extra responsibilities the bump would come through. she looked at me like id imagined the whole thing and said she didnt remember promising any specific number to anyone.
in the moment she just kept piling stuff on me all at once, questioning whether the extra work was even ever meant to be mine, making out like id assumed my way into the whole arrangement. i got completely overwhelmed and barely defended myself, just sat there nodding like an idiot.
then today i went back through my inbox and found the original email, the one where hr asked her to confirm my new responsibilities and the agreed increase, and she replied in writing spelling out the exact figure. its right there in black and white.
ive decided im leaving the second i line something else up. but the question is do i show her the email. part of me wants to just so she cant keep pretending, and part of me thinks shes shown me exactly who she is and its not worth my energy. she also said she meant to "sort this out months ago" but doesnt like confrontation so she let it slide. thoughts?
