Hi Everyone,
I been out of the industry for 5 years. Used to be a Software Engineer. Had 11+ years of experience.
I think I was a good engineer. I got recognition award very often. Been through many layoffs/merger/acquisitions and somehow survived. Regularly headhunted. Ownership of main critical part of the product.
Welp, I quit. In 2021, I decided to take a break. Maybe I was burn out. But I was definitely stressed out with life. My mom was dying, family drama, etc.
Fast forward now. No headhunter is looking for me. Resumes I sent seems to go into a blackhole. Everything is just the exact opposite. I understand that after 5 yrs of not working they consider my experience as moot. But still.. this is just savage. After leaving the industry, I was also a teaching assistant for a very good university teaching grad level CS courses. Its not like my xp is completely gone but I must admit I would need atleast several months to get back to where I was.
I am just wondering anyone outhere was able to succesfully return to work after 5 yrs of break?
How did you do it. I am really stomped. No interview. No response. Nothing.
