For context, I’m a contractor for Northrop Grumman’s BWI facility. For the past 8 months as a contractor, there has been a specific area within the facility that I still lack official door access for, with only small support from my manager & my coworkers in order to get access. Some of the material I deliver there are very sensitive and has to be stored right away.
Out of frustration, I had politely asked if I could speak to one of the managers within that area to see if he could help me get door access. He was cool, said he manually added in my information and I should be getting access very soon. However, the other managers there were unhappy with what I did.
“OP pulled one of our managers out of a meeting demanding door access to the room. OP’s tone and demeanor is dangerously close to becoming unprofessional. Several people that work in the area reported incidents of OP being rude and dismissive when trying to help him.”
This confused me a lot because I have cordial relations with a lot of the workers within that area, and I’ve only asked once before if there was any way to get door access. This recent incident was just me politely following up on it, and I never intended to come across as rude. Not even the manager I spoke with personally during this incident thought I was rude and was more than helpful. However, now it has been dragged as an issue and my manager is now waiting for clarification if they want to enforce any restrictions related to the incident.
What can I do? Is there even anything I can do? I’m already on thin ice with my manager and now this incident has caused new headaches for me.
