Am I Suppose to Smile at My Job?

I (28f) don’t really smile when I’m at work. I just come in and do my job. My job isn’t customer/client facing. I work independently at a work bench with partitions. You can see your neighbor and have easy access for conversation. I have small chit-chat with coworkers about whatever they want to discuss then focus on my job for the rest of my shift. During these conversations, Im smiling, engaged and being friendly. Today, at our morning meeting, I was talking to a teammate who’s on the same project as me, about video games. I was smiling and laughing until another coworker chimed in stating “Wow you’re finally smiling. You never smile!”

This is the 2nd time a coworker has said this to me at this company. This is just my face. Do I need to smile when I go to work? By the time I get to work, I’m tired and wanna go home. Is a job supposed to make you smile 40/hrs a week? That sounds exhausting….

Do people actually smile for their entire shift??

Side Note: I enjoy my job and my coworkers aren’t too bad. Better than the last couple of jobs I’ve had. I thought this was such an odd thing for some coworkers to comment on. (2 that I know of so far)
