I'm 62, was laid off last year from an Office Manager job I was making 98k at.
Let's just say I've been working out and eating well since I was 16, I look way younger than my age.
7 months later (after 210 resumes sent out, numerous interviews where I'm sure they saw that I was older and turned me down) I finally got a position at company for way less money but I was willing to take anything. They ended up having me do stuff that wasn't part of my job description and I hate it but there's not a lot I can do.
I started sending out resumes again and lo and behold this one firm I was checking weekly since I was laid off that I have friend working at, had a position I sent a resume me for, got a call th next day, interviewed which I didn't get but they said they had a better position for me that I was great for they hadn't even put up on their site yet. They talked to my friends who gave me glowing reviews and I was told by my friends they were going to make me an offer (they told them that).
They told me to hold off until the new position was listed and when it was send my resume to their HR (I initially sent my resume to the office). Then nothing.
A week later I check in and she says they're still setting stuff up even though the positions been on the site for over week.
Another week goes by and she emails me and says they're going a different direction. I knew it. They found out about my age and didn't want to hire me. Even though the people I interviewed with had to be at least my age or close to it. My interview was great and they told my friends they were going to make an offer. Couldn't have been a better for me and them but my age was a no-go.
So I'm stuck at this job I hate. I really hate it but I have no other options. I realize no one will hire me. If the perfect job wouldn't hire me bcause of my age, no one will.
