Hey guys, I would like to announce that I finally have a job!
I got laid off on 17 July, and I had already been actively, like very, very actively, applying for jobs since November 2025. In that time, I applied to over 3,000 positions. Out of those 3,000+ applications, I only got shortlisted for two. One eventually ghosted me, and with the other, I couldn’t clear the interview because apparently I didn’t have what it takes to be a good fit for the role.
Then, about a month ago, I got a call from a company that actually approached me. I didn’t even know they had an opening in my field, and the role itself was quite niche, so I honestly didn’t expect much from it. But somehow, I made it through.
Ironically, after applying to more than 3,000 positions, I ended up getting selected for a role where the company reached out to me first.
It is safe to say that this job market is absolutely brutal. I genuinely don’t know how many of the jobs being posted are even real anymore. This past year has been incredibly exhausting, from constantly applying to preparing for interviews and dealing with rejection after rejection. It honestly sucked the life out of me.
I have to start around the end of September, and I’m just really glad that I didn’t have to take a very long career break. From 17 July to 2 September, it’s been about six weeks, which is honestly much shorter than I expected.
I also went through six rounds of interviews for this company. Even when I felt like I wasn’t confident enough or didn’t think I had done well, I somehow still made it through and got selected. I don’t know how my life is going to change with this job yet, but I’m just really glad that things are finally working out.
To everyone who is currently applying and struggling to find something, I genuinely hope you get the role you’re looking for, get paid well, and end up somewhere that treats you well. This market is really tough, and I know how draining it can be because I’ve been there for the past year.
